Kent Bassett is an Emmy-nominated editor and filmmaker. He directed and edited This Might Hurt (Austin Film Festival), a feature documentary about chronic pain and a radical mind-body treatment. Once on the fringes, the paradigm explored in the film, Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET), was proven effective in randomized controlled trials and is now listed as a “best practice” by the HHS.

His most recent editing work is Not Going Quietly, about healthcare activist Ady Barkan (Hulu; Broadcast on PBS’s POV; Winner, Audience Award, SXSW; nominated for 3 IDA awards and 2 Emmy awards, including Best Writing and Best Politics Documentary). He edited Standing Up (DOC NYC) about three unlikely aspiring comedians, as well as the Emmy-nominated Personal Statement (AFI Docs, PBS), about youth leaders fighting to expand college access.

Kent has a BA in history from Swarthmore College and an MFA in film production from Chapman University. His narrative work includes the feature narrative film, Girls Will Be Girls (co-producer, Sundance), the short films “Honolulu” (editor, Aspen Shortsfest), “The Line” (writer/director, winner, spirit award, Brooklyn Film Festival), and “A Period Piece” (editor, SXSW).

Apart from filmmaking, Kent has trained as a pain recovery coach and works with people struggling with chronic pain at Mind-Body Insight Coaching.
